Inspired from the 1998 french movie, Dinner For Schmucks is a light hearted comic caper directed by Jay Roach. It also marks the return of Paul Rudd and Steve Carell who together earlier have given us remarkable comedies. Paul Rudd's character Tim is an ambitious, well to do financial analyst at Fender Financial. He lives with his beautiful girlfriend in a great apartment, drives a great car,and has the perfect life. However, Tim still has an unfulfilled wish, i.e, of being among the top most corporates of his company. One day, when Tim's boss, Lance Fender(Bruce Greenwood) presents him with an opportunity to climb up the ladder, Tim grabs it with both hands. But, to be accepted as an top graded corporate, Tim has to undergo a company tradition-that is to attend a dinner,but with an idiot for a guest. The person whose idiotic guest is most amusing, gets the promotion. This is where the character of Barry(Steve Carell) is introduced. This bucktoothed taxman with an horrible obsession of dressing up mice comes as a blessing in disguise for Tim, who realizes Barry's potential as the perfect idiot at the dinner. The situation goes out of control when Barry turns out to be a destructive tornado. Although good intentioned, he is an irritating headache to Tim. Steve Carell excels as the bugging, juvenile taxman of all times!His character is the classic good guy who wants to make things better and help out but ends up ruining the situation. The fact that Barry cannot differentiate between the good and bad is the reason why he ends up destructing Tim's life by driving out his girlfriend, bringing back his ex, trashing his apartment, and leaving Tim audited.
